What is Comprehensible Input?

The Comprehensible Input Method is a language acquisition approach where learners receive input that they can mostly understand based on context clues (images, expressions, etc.). Rather than memorizing grammar rules or vocabulary lists, this method emphasizes meaningful exposure to the target language through listening, watching, and reading that the learner can largely understand. This mimics the way that a child naturally learns their first language. They do not rely on any existing language or translations (as they have no prior language). Instead they must infer what is likely being said, and through repeated exposure they eventually master their language.

In our course, we make language comprehensible through visuals, gestures, repetition, and context clues, allowing learners to infer meaning naturally. Over time, as learners receive large amounts of understandable input, their brains unconsciously acquire grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation patterns, leading to more fluent and natural communication. Essentially, the method works by creating conditions similar to how children learn their first language—through understanding and context rather than explicit instruction.

How does the course work?

This course has two components: Video lessons and accompanying documents (digital downloads). Our goal is to make this course as financially accessible as possible, and so we aim to always keep the basic video lessons free. Supplemental/review lessons may be available to paying channel members only, but these would not include any new material. This means regular subscribers will not miss anything, but members will get the extra review lessons as a thank you for their support.

The video lessons are available on our YouTube channel Egyptic.

The accompanying documents can be purchased here as digital downloads on our website’s shop. These, again, are not vital to understanding the course. But they are an optional supplement if you would like the extra material, and it greatly helps to support our project. The materials are slowly being added and will include documents such as vocabulary lists with translations, mini lessons/explanations, reading practice worksheets, etc.
